State health department to investigate New Jersey abortion clinic after undercover videos

The New Jersey state health department will investigate Metropolitan Medical Associates, an abortion clinic in Englewood after an undercover video by Live Action showed a Planned Parenthood employee referring a "pimp" to Metropolitan Medical Associates if girls 14 and under wanted abortions.
Department of Health and Senior Services spokeswoman Donna Leusner said late Wednesday Commissioner Poonam Alaigh was "concerned" the Planned Parenthood of Central Jersey office manager referred anti-abortion activists posing as a pimp and prostitute to Metropolitan Medical Associates if young prostitutes needed to terminate a pregnancy.

"They won't need ID then. … Their protocols aren't as strict as ours and they don't get audited the same way we do," said the office manager of the Perth Amboy Planned Parenthood clinic, identified in the video as Amy Woodruff. Planned Parenthood workers would be expected to ask about the age of a 14-year-old pregnant girl's sex partner, and report it to authorities if workers suspected she was a victim of statutory rape......

The health department's review of Metropolitan Medical Associates will include "an examination of patient medical records, interviews with staff and observations of the facility to ensure that it is complying with all regulations," Leusner said.

Attorney Frank Capece, speaking on behalf of Metropolitan Medical Associates, said, "We don't comment on allegations by a former employee of Planned Parenthood.''
