Their response is here. They basically seem to oppose the ad solely because Focus on the Family is behind it.
Focus on the Family has an unmistakable anti-choice, anti-birth-control, anti-sex-education, and anti-gay agenda. Its views on women are insulting and dangerous.....
Instead of watching Focus on the Family's ad, for 30 seconds, just focus on… something else. Use Facebook and Twitter to tell everyone why you object to the ad and tell them what you'll focus on instead of watching it.
NARAL President Nancy Keenan also did a Huffington Post column and NARAL shot a video of her answering some questions from a NARAL staffer.
The real problem they have with the ad is that they can't stand the idea that women might stop just submitting to unwanted, needless abortions just because some doctor is too ideological/lazy/afraid of lawsuits to see them through pregnancy.
ReplyDeleteThe ideal NARAL woman doesn't worry her pretty little head about things like second opinions. She just does what the nice doctor tells her. It creates some nice "maternal indications" statistics, gives a patina of necessity to the rest of the abortions, which are purely elective.
If women started standing up to their doctors and demanding real medical care, then what? If women with serious health problems start demanding better than abortion, then women with less challenging issues might start demanding better as well. And we all know where that ends. In women no longer being herded like cattle into the abortion mills.
And we can't have that, can we? Not if NARAL wants to continue to exist.
And especially not if the NARAL crowd wants to continue to justify their own abortions.
